There is competition between TRANSRAPID as magnetic elevated One-Rail-System with the Two-Rail-System of old -fashioned railways.
The main advantage of TRANSRAPID is noise-level, faster acceleration and higher flexibility towards topographic challenges due to hill-climbing-ability of up to 10% compared with old-fashioned railways of 1-3%.
Shanghai Airport Connection is the first operational system of TRANSRAPID.

New development due to project for Olympic Games 2016 in Munich/Germany: Administration of Munich has to show by 2011 that there is an infrastructure in connection between airport Munich and City to perform such challenges of traffic volume as in Olympic Games. Only TRANSRAPID will be available, not the proposed Express-Railway in old-fashioned Two-Rail-Systems.
However, forget TRANSRAPID: Bavarian Governmant decided against this project. You better forget Olympia 2018 Munich too.
